JEANNEQUIN

Marc is my grandfather's first name. He was born in 1923 in the Burgundy village of Chemilly-sur-Yonne.

In the 1950s, he grew his first gherkins on the land of his childhood to supply a local canning factory.

In the past, in the Yonne region, gherkin production was "a supplement" for families, who grew a few rows in their vegetable garden and then sold them to the cannery. Then gherkin production became professionalized, and the department now boasted as many as 35 producers.

In the early 2000s, in the face of globalization, all the major specialist industrial groups relocated their production and decided to source from India. French gherkin producers disappeared.

But my father was determined to maintain this French product at all costs. He fought hard and became the last producer in France. His gherkins are sold "fresh" to middlemen.

In 2012, I, Henri, have the great honor of taking over from my father and grandfather.

With "made in france" all the rage and 100% French gherkins having completely disappeared, I decided to relaunch production.

My aim was to sell to consumers who were more attentive to the origin and quality of their products. There will be no middlemen! Our gherkins will be grown and packaged in-house. It was in Chemilly-sur-Yonne, on the grounds of my grandfather's house, that I decided to build my own canning factory.

A name had to be found, and Maison Marc was the obvious choice.
